About the Artist
My Thoughts ….
After so many of years of not painting and drawing, my unemployment time gave me time to reconnect with making art. I’m having a great time painting now. What have I been doing these past 30+ years? I have worked full time as a school-aged child care administrator and used my background in art and art education throughout these years in this work. As a young child, I was a latch-key kid (before doors were locked) so no key was needed for the latch. Providing children with after school programming created community.
My painting and drawing is another way for me to do this. I’m draw to shapes and the views of structures and landscapes around me. The contrast of color and texture is reflected throughout. My stepping stone to drawing began in April 2020 with pencil drawings of old wooden tread spools. They belonged to my dad and his tailoring store. I’ve kept them for all these years and they became my inspiration to begin drawing again, their individual personalities speak to me.
I have set up a portable studio on my back patio and garden. It’s small and I have a tiny shed to store my work. As a cancer survivor, I feel more comfortable painting in the fresh air and avoid toxins. I love the natural lighting and working around the elements (the summer heat and the cold winter days).
I will continue to add to this section as I discover new things to share.
Thanks!
Rochelle
PS. I’m now back working with children and inspired by their incredible creativity and energy.
